How do I buy a DVR w / o Monthly fees?
I would like to able to stop in and play and record shows but do not have cable / satellite and do not want to pay monthly fees. Is there a place I can buy a DVR / Tivo device really? Please help with Clues!
If you do not satellite or cable service, then I assume you're talking about over-the-air antenna TV. For this you will need a device with a ATSC tuner, as one of the digital converter boxes. I have this kind of setup myself. I use a digital converter box (a Zenith DTT900), in conjunction with a Toshiba SD-H400 DVR. The Toshiba is one of the few TiVo units that are not require that you pay a monthly fee. It provides a 3-day schedule, but none of the advanced features like TiVo Season Pass Even with these restrictions It is a great improvement over video recorders, which were pretty much obsolete by DTV and HD.
