What is the best video camcorder on the go?

What is the best camcorder (HD, DVD, Mini DVD, all formats) for use on trips. Backpacking kinda stuff. Nothing really over $ 1000. I just want to take only what I want and edit it later in a movie style a bit. Like a doco. I would like really good image quality and long battery life. I also think it would be convenient if I had a couple of easy way of storing video .. on removable media or something maybe? Any tech geeks out there?

I would not really consider myself a geek (self-esteem, you know …. hehe), but here goes: ___________________ MiniDV camcorders are best. No question. His rivals are mini-DVD, hard disk drive, flash memory, etc. Flash memory is terrible quality (such as filp Cameras), so let's eliminate that. Looking to miniDVD: ok quality, though not as good as miniDV, especially in HD. Also very practical. My great disadvantage Is that to edit miniDVD is a pain. If you have no desire to work for a documentary avoid miniDVD like. There are very few programs available miniDVD editing, and none of them are good. The only one I know, Ulead Video Studio. _________ Hard Drive: decent quality (not as good as miniDV). Several options for editing (though not nearly as many as miniDV), such as Sony Vegas, Final Cut Express, Pinnacle Studio to name a few. that bad? Hard Drive = limited capacity = poor, especially on the road. Not as good quality as miniDV. All Pro-editing programs will not work with her. No practical means of data archiving (You need to capture your footage to your computer to delete from the camcorder to shoot more) _________ to edit MiniDV easy. Best quality in HD (HD miniDV is HDV), because it is the least compressed. Easy to archive footage on cheap MiniDV cassettes. Works with any program (Windows Movie Maker to Avid Media Composer). btw: 90% the prosumer cameras are miniDV. No hard drive, or miniDVD. Suppose you want a MiniDV camcorder (at least I hope you do), I recommend the Canon HV30 for about $ 780th It is HD! Excellent image quality. Breathtaking color saturation. Excellent automatic mode (good for point and shooters), it also has a microphone input for external microphones (cuz the onboard microphones are never good) It is the only camera under $ 2,000, which I would ever seriously suggest. I've used it many times (although I do not even one) and the only thing is I do not like that there is no decent manual controls (they use is very annoying, I tend to stay in automatic mode). But you can only get good manual controls on a per-camera, so it is not so bad. It also has a 24p mode that makes your digital video look like film, which is a real nice Feature filmmaker (but for rent footage, it is best to stick with 30fps). btw, the battery is decent but not overly impressive. What the concerns, will come not a camera with a super-long battery life. You can purchase additional batteries though … So, I hope this helps. Good luck to you!
